Our Story
We arrived in the Barossa in the late 1980s at a time when the wine industry was dragging itself out of a recession. Lucky enough to rescue two remnant vineyards on properties settled by original pioneers, we sold our fruit to one of the region's most respected wineries, Rockford.
In 1998 we worked with Robert O'Callaghan and Chris Ringland, the artisan winemakers at Rockford, to create our first Shiraz. We named it Silesian in honour of the original pioneering families who had arrived from that part of Eastern Europe in the 1840s.
We also chose a gold quill as our logo, signifying our joint backgrounds in journalism and publishing.
We have since produced two other authentic Barossa wines: our single vineyard Three Hogsheads Shiraz sourced entirely from Fuller's 120 year old vines, the yield literally restricted to less than three hogshead barrels each year; and Two Little Dickie Birds Rosé, a lively blend of Grenache and Mataro in the Rhone style.
We still make our Shiraz at Rockford assisted by winemaker Ben Radford, while our rosé is made by another Barossa stalwart, Pete Schell.
From the start we have been determined not to chase fashion or trends but make authentic Barossa wines which reflected the legacy of our hardworking vineyard pioneers.
We think we're getting there.
